Atomic Bomb
Hiroshima
On August 6, 1945, the United States used a massive, destructive atomic weapon on Hiroshima, Japan. This atomic bomb flattened the city of Hiroshima, while killing tens of thousands civilians. The president during this time was Harry S. Truman. Many people may think the atomic bomb on Hiroshima was terrible, but it was for a greater cause in the long run. During this war, the Japanese were not going to surrender, and sending our troops inland would end up in us losing thousand of soldiers. That was not a path we planned on going. If we made no action towards the Japanese, then we would all be stuck in a war for a while. The main reason we dropped the bomb was because of all the Kamikaze attacks coming from the Japanese to the U.S. fleets. The Japanese did the Kamikaze attacks because they thought it was a great honor to die for their emperor. They would've kept doing these suicide missions if the U.S. hadn't done anything. The only choice was to drop the atomic bomb on them. Because of dropping the bomb we saved more lives in the long run.
Nagasaki
Nagasaki had suffered the same fate and consequence as Hiroshima in August of 1945. The atomic bomb on Nagasaki was the last major attack toward the Japanese until they would surrender. The president during this atomic bomb was Harry S. Truman, as in the attack on Hiroshima. America was getting tired of the Japanese and all their kamikaze attacks, and knew they wouldn't surrender even after the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. That was the main reason that America bombed Nagasaki, the U.S. just wanted to end with the war. After they bombed Nagasaki, Japan, the Japanese surrendered from the war.
